Trent Summar

Since his first major label release in 1994 with his former band, Hank Flamingo, Trent Summar has been a trend-setter and barn door blower-off-er.  His unique sound merges elements of deep rooted traditional country with heartland rock & roll, honky tonk, and straight ahead contemporary country music.

Coming out of the Middle Tennessee State University music business program, Trent is as at home in the studio as he is playing his self-coined "farm rock" on large stages such as the Conan O'Brien Show and the Grand Ole Opry.  Trent's live show with his New Row Mob has been described as the Rolling Stones meets Chuck Berry and George Jones.

For the past two decades, Trent has been focusing his energies on songwriting and it's paid off.  His first big success came in 2003, when Gary Allen included "Guys Like Me" (co-written with Kostas) on his platinum album, See If I Care.  The next year, Pat Green recorded "Somewhere between Texas and Mexico" (co-written with Irene Kelley) on his 2004 release, Lucky Ones.  The album track, spurred on by listener requests, entered all major U.S. recording charts and was a runaway smash in Texas, spending 60 weeks at #1 on the Texas chart.  Simultaneously, Billy Currington's platinum release Doin' Something Right featured Trent's song "She Knows What to Do (With a Saturday Night)" (co-written with Grammy award winning producer/songwriter, Gary Nicholson).

Summar's biggest hits to date have come in recent years.  First, Jack Ingram's hit "Love You" (co-written with Jay Knowles) reached the Top Ten and garnered Summar a BMI Award for One of the Most Performed Songs of the Year.  The single also won a CMT video award.  And just last year, David Nail had a hit with Summar’s song “Kiss You Tonight” (co-written with Jay Knowles and David Cook) which spent 52 weeks on the Billboard chart and 4 months in the Top Twenty, garnering a second BMI Award for One of the Most Performed Songs. Other major cuts include “Everything But You” (co-written with Kip Moore) on Kip’s hit debut record, “There’s the Sun” (co-written with Brandon Kinney) recorded by legendary future-Hall-of-Famer, Kix Brooks“Shine” (co-written with Wendell Mobley and Neil Thrasher) on Randy Houser’s How Country Feels album, “California Country Boy” (co-written with David Lowery) which was featured on Cracker’s Berkeley to Bakersfield album, and most recently Jon Pardi included “Over My Head” (co-written with Jon Pardi and Gary Nicholson) on The B-Sides.

In addition, Trent has continued to be a favorite writer of top Texas artists resulting in 10 Top Ten Songs on the Texas Music Charts recorded by artists such as Bart Crow, Casey Donahue, Ray Johnston, Rick O’Toole and more.

Trent recently relocated to Santa Barbara, CA where he spends most days writing songs when he’s not surf perch fishing.
